Is a real thermal event rather than a sensor plausibility complaint: the ECM recorded coolant temperature above the overheat threshold and usually took protective action such as retarding timing, cutting cylinders, or derating power. Once cool, verify coolant level and look for trapped air from an incomplete bleed, confirm that the fan clutch or electric fan actually engages at temperature, and sweep the radiator face with an infrared thermometer for cold patches that reveal internal plugging. A collapsing lower hose, an eroded water pump impeller, a thermostat stuck closed, or combustion gases pushed into the coolant all produce this code.
