Drivers feel flat acceleration on grades and highway merges while the ECM may also set related underboost adaptive limits. Smoke-test the charge-air path, check wastegate/VGT actuation, and verify the MAP/boost sensor before condemning the turbo. On diesels, split boots after the turbo outlet are a top cause; on gasoline turbos, stuck-open wastegates and leaking diverter valves are common. Prioritize ruling out split or loose charge-air cooler hose/boot, wastegate stuck open or VGT vanes stuck/carboned, and worn turbocharger shaft or damaged compressor wheel before you resume normal driving.
