Is the J1939 intake manifold boost pressure parameter, and it feeds fuelling, smoke limiting, EGR control, and turbo actuator strategy, so a wrong number costs power and fuel economy even when nothing is mechanically broken. Start with a key-on engine-off sanity check: with no boost the sensor should read local barometric pressure, and a value far from that condemns the sensor or its circuit immediately. If the baseline is right, log commanded against actual boost during a loaded pull, then look for soot packing the sensor port, a leaking charge-air cooler or clamp, and a variable-geometry actuator that sticks. Because low actual boost also sets underboost faults, expect related codes together. Confirm reference voltage and ground quality before replacing the sensor, since fretted pins mimic sensor failure very convincingly.
