Is the J1939 EBS brake-switch parameter used by electronic braking systems to know when the driver is requesting service brake. When it faults, the EBS/ABS controller may see an implausible switch state versus treadle pressure or pedal sensor, which can affect retarder inhibit, stop-lamp logic, and stability-control enablement. Confirm the mechanical switch (or redundant pedal sensors) actuates cleanly through the pedal travel, check supply voltage and ground at the switch, and compare switch status PIDs to actual treadle application before replacing the EBS ECU. Discriminate among a failed brake switch, misadjusted switch plunger travel, and open or shorted switch wiring. Verify by monitoring switch status while applying and releasing the pedal, then voltage-drop test the circuit; replace the EBS brake switch only when wiring and mechanical adjustment are proven good.
